Markington League Rules

No Rule
1. The league shall be known as The Markington and District Rural Billiards and Snooker League.
2. The league shall be managed by a Committee consisting of President- Chairman, Secretary, Results Secretary and Website Manager, Treasurer, and one Representative from each club not represented by the Officers.
3. The officers shall be elected at the AGM which shall take place within two months of the end of the playing season.
4. Each club should elect a Representative to serve on the Committee.
5. The annual subscription shall be decided at the AGM and shall be paid to the Treasurer on entry of the team.
6. Any change in the current teams shall be communicated to the Secretary by 31st May each year.
7. Each team shall consist of the following. All players must be members of their respective clubs; Snooker Five players and Billiards Four players.
8. Matches shall be played as arranged in the Fixture Handbook, and commence at 7.30pm (7.00pm for billiards at one table venues). By agreement between the captains, snooker matches can start at 7.00pm at one table venues.
9. For a one table venue, at least one player from each team should be present at the start time in addition to a referee. At a two table venue two players from each team should be there at 7.30pm.
10. If a player does not arrive within 10 minutes of a table being vacant to play a game, the game may be forfeited, at the discretion of the opposing team.
11. If one or more players fail to turn up to play, a player from the team that is short of players may play 2 frames to ensure everyone in the opposing team gets a game. The aggregate point is awarded to the team with all players present. If both teams are short of players then neither team gets the aggregate point.
12. Matches may only be postponed for bad weather or Illness of several members of the team (e.g. Covid). The game must be played as soon as possible and by the end of the season at the latest.
13. The game of billiards shall be 125 up; the game of snooker shall be 1 frame.
14. One point shall be awarded for each game and one point for the higher aggregate score.
15. The home team captain is responsible for the pairing of players in all matches.
16. All players will play with individual handicaps printed in the current Fixture Handbook. Captains should agree the handicaps of new players with the Handicaps Secretary. Unless otherwise agreed, new billiards players should play off +25 and new snooker players should play off scratch. All handicaps will be reviewed half-way through the fixture programme but changes will be kept to a minimum.
17. The home team shall provide the referee. In any case of dispute whilst the game is in progress, the referee is the final authority and is in sole charge of the game.
18. Clubs may enter more than one team, to be known as A, B, C etc.
19. The result of each match shall be sent to the Results Secretary immediately after a match has taken place, preferably by email. Each card should be signed by the captains of each team (or their deputies) checking to see that all the details have been filled in correctly. (New players marked ‘NP’.) Poorly completed cards may result in the deduction of one point.
20. If any match is interrupted through unavoidable circumstances, finished games shall stand and unfinished games shall be played by arrangement as soon as possible.
21. An objection to any game shall be reported to the Secretary in writing within SEVEN days of the game being played and shall be dealt with by the Committee. A fee of £10.00 shall accompany the objection, which will be returned if the objection is upheld by the Committee.
22. All games shall be played in accordance with the rules of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.
23. If more than one team have the same number of league points at the end of the season, the winning team is decided by the number of games won. If they are still equal, there will be a play-off at a neutral venue.
24. Trophies are the property of the League and winners shall hold them for ONE season only.
25. If a club does not abide by any of the above rules the Committee will take appropriate action.
26. The decision of the Committee in all matters is final.
